Choosing between JBoss7's Standalone or Domain features. Print

  • 201

JBoss 7 introduced new feature called managed domains. Basically this is a multi-server management solution to make your life easier when dealing with multiple servers. The tradition JBoss setup is now called standalone where you may utilize JBoss how you've always done in the past. Now you have to choose which suites your needs, Standalone or Domains? Keep in mind that this is not about features, but about how you wish to manage multiple servers. If you are only going to run 1 server then standalone would make more sense than managed domain.

  • Use domains if you wish to use a centralized management.
  • Use standalone if you are only going to run one server.
  • Standalone is better for developer based workstation/server.
  • Use standalone if you're more comfortable with the old HA clustering architecture.
